Teeth

If a horse cannot chew or cannot chew properly it is clear he is going to have less than optimal nutrition. With young horses up to about 5 years' old we check the horses teeth twice a year but particularly from 2 1/2 to 4 1/2 when their teeth are changing most. Their teeth grw ca. 2mm per year so if they are not naturally being ground down it can become a serious problem. Sometimes young teeth don't fall out as they should and inhibit of the growth of adult teeth. Regular checks mean you will stop most problems before they have even started.
